Your first trial weekend, without the guesswork.

Plan a German Shepherd trial or assessment visit using organizer-confirmed offerings, entry requirements and a practical event checklist.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use a calendar to find possibilities, then use the host’s current notice and secretary to confirm the event you can actually attend or enter.

YOUR RESEARCH CHECKLIST

Keep the next conversation focused.

Choose the role you want to take

Attending as a spectator, volunteering and entering a dog involve different arrangements. Decide which you want before contacting the host. If you are new, explain that and ask what is appropriate for a first visit.

For a competitor, write the exact test or class you need. “IGP weekend” is not enough if your real objective is a particular assessment. For a spectator, ask whether dogs may attend and where visitors should stand or park.

Confirm the offering and the rules

USCA’s regional pages connect visitors with clubs and events; its rulebook hub is the place to check the current USCA trial framework. Other organizations have their own notices and requirements.

Keep the current schedule and the host’s response together. If a third-party calendar and the organizer disagree, ask the organizer before making plans. Dates, entry availability and locations can change after a listing is collected.

Check the location before travelling

An event’s listed town may describe the club or general area rather than an exact competition field. Tracking and other activities may use separate locations. Ask for the arrival instructions relevant to your role.

GSD Index uses maps to help you discover events by area. Do not treat an approximate marker as a precise gate, parking entrance or tracking location. Confirm the venue directly with the host.

Make one concise event note

Save the confirmed date, offered test, entry deadline, contact person, document requirements and arrival instructions. Add any welfare or attendance conditions the host gives you. That small note is more useful on the day than several disconnected screenshots.

After attending, keep the official result with the dog’s record if you competed. If you only observed, note the questions you want to take back to your trainer. Either can make the next visit more useful.
