Pilot methodology v0.1.0. Independent scores appear after evidence and board validation. Official event placements stay available.

Which results count?

The latest six eligible event weekends within 24 months. Multiple starts in one weekend become one averaged observation. Recent results carry more weight; a result from one year ago carries half the weight of a result today.

Three separate event dates, two judging panels with no judges in common, a result in the last 12 months and a reviewed complete history are required. Weak results remain in the record.

Separate disciplines

SV-style Show boards keep adult sex and coat classes separate. Working starts with IGP 3. AKC needs its own scoring adapter; its awards are not converted to SV placements.

All-Round is a later 50/50 Show and Working pilot. It will require eligibility in both and comparison testing before launch.

What earns the points?

Results: Show placement relative to the full judged class, adjusted for tiny fields. IGP 3 uses official phase scores and the recorded outcome.

Competition level: Performance multiplied by the reviewed event level. Club 40, regional 60, national 80, world 100. Attendance alone earns nothing.

Repeat performance: The average of the weaker half of the selected event observations.

What stays separate?

Health tests, breed surveys, titles, pedigrees and offspring records remain visible evidence. They do not become invented bonus points.

Listing fees, ownership verification and advertisements never change a rating. Missing records mean more evidence is needed, not that the dog is poor.

Exact formula and edge cases

Show result P: 100 × (W + 0.5T + 1) ÷ (N + 1), where N is the complete comparable judged field, W the dogs placed below and T the other dogs tied. N must be at least two. Our directory count is never used as the field size.

Working result P: 100 × official IGP 3 total ÷ 300 for a valid recorded pass, retaining all three phase scores. An explicitly reviewed performance failure contributes zero. DNS is excluded. Unresolved DQ, DNF or withdrawal outcomes hold the rating for review.

Competition A: P × reviewed event level ÷ 100. Recency w: 2^(−age in days ÷ 365). Repeat C: mean of the lowest ceil(n ÷ 2) observation values of P.

Rating: 0.60 × weighted mean(P,w) + 0.25 × weighted mean(A,w) + 0.15 × C.

Scores display one decimal. Displayed ties share a rank; positions 1–25 receive an Index shield within their named board. A tie at 25 can include more than 25 dogs. Regional views retain the score and show the corresponding regional position.

Evidence before a number

Every counted event needs a source, date, class, identity match and judging panel. A complete-history review checks for missing starts. Dogs with fewer than three eligible dates show Developing record.

Before a board publishes scores, it requires documented backtesting and specialist review. These weights are GSD Index editorial choices, not an official kennel-club formula. Each snapshot displays its calculation date and version.

Every line. Every coat.

The directory supports working lines, show lines, mixed lineages, stock coats, long coats, males and females. A show result is not required. Lineage is only labeled when supporting evidence is supplied; it is not inferred from appearance or competition participation.

Current coverage: show classes and IGP results.

The ranked show cohort covers the first 25 ranked dogs from the 2026 BSZS adult working-dog male long-stock-coat class. The official class includes further entries. It is not a worldwide ranking of breeding quality.

The directory also contains 68 WUSV 2025 catalog profiles from 21 national teams. Each records the named sire and dam. Catalog inclusion is not proof of attendance or a final result. Separately reviewed final results now supplement 48 of these profiles. The directory also includes 25 stock-coat male and 25 stock-coat female BSZS placements. Rankings stay within their event and class.

AKC conformation: GSDCA National Specialty

The 2025 GSDCA National records preserve reviewed Grand Victor, Grand Victrix and numbered Select awards in separate male and female lists. This first batch includes 10 male and 7 female selections. These are event results, not annual AKC Grand Championship points. They do not feed the SV or IGP independent rating formula. Catalog parentage is retained; coat, ancestry line and current residence are not inferred.

Reading the gauges and charts

Profile placement gauges are optional views of the ordinal position recorded for this event. For N tracked dogs, the arc and bar use (N − tracked position + 1) / N. A fuller arc means an earlier position in the tracked order. It is not a percentage of ability.

Award charts count VA and V records. Country charts count source-listed countries: owner country for BSZS results, national team for WUSV entries, not birthplaces or current locations. A single result cannot establish a performance trend.

Source notation

The official result marks catalog entries 1516, 1522 and 1515 with superscript 1. We preserve that marker on their award badges; consult the official result for its meaning. Some names in the existing records omit the source’s (INT) suffix. The original CMS records remain unchanged.

Available evidence is not a quality rating

Completeness counts populated fields out of 18: name, rank, grade, placement, year, coat, sex, className, country, catalogNumber, sourceUrl, verification, sire, dam, pedigreeUrl, healthNotes, progenyNotes, photoUrl. A populated field is not automatically independently verified. Missing health evidence is never interpreted as poor health.

Independent rating availability

The v0.1 rating engine is in an evidence-gated pilot. A dog needs a reviewed multi-event history and its board must pass validation before a numerical rating is published. Official event placements stay separate. Show placement cannot substitute for genetic, pedigree or progeny evidence.

Photographs and their sources

Portraits are matched to the named dog using club or breeder profiles. Photographs may predate the displayed event. Source links, photographer credits where identifiable, and visible watermarks are retained; images are displayed uncropped.

The current editorial portraits are displayed at the site owner’s direction under an asserted fair-use basis without a license. This is not a legal determination or a guarantee of fair use. Licensed photographs are tracked separately. A source link or credit alone does not grant permission.

Country-first browsing

We use an approximate network-derived country to sort directory profiles, with a manual country or worldwide choice. VPNs may change the estimate. The lookup returns only a country code; the application does not store IP addresses or precise coordinates for this feature. Your manual choice lasts for this browser tab session. Source country or national team is not proof of a dog’s present location. Region filters take priority; event rankings never change with viewer location.

Corrections and new evidence

Dog records and sources are maintained by the site’s CMS administrators. Correct the existing record with supporting evidence; do not replace the collection. Automated collection is staged for review with a source URL and retrieval date. Only reviewed facts enter public profiles. Each source’s collection and reuse conditions are checked, and photo permissions are reviewed separately. Existing records are not overwritten by an import.
